Alamogordo is home to the New Mexico Museum of Space History and IMAX theater. You can often see Stealth fighters in the sky over Holloman Air Force Base. Twice a year White Sands Missile Range offers trips to the Trintiy Site, where the first atomic bomb was tested during World War II. Nearby White Sands National Monument preserves a portion of the world's largest gypsum dune fields. You can drive through the dunes, then stop at one of the numerous picnic areas.
