Two axioms are good advice concerning food and drink in Juarez - "Boil it, peel it, cook it or forget it"; and "Don't drink the water". Larger restaurants use bottled or treated water so you are generally safe eating and drinking what is served there. Good basic advice is to eat packaged foods, drink bottled drinks and eat only in bigger restaurants.

Ajuua! Fiesta Mexicana
162 N. Efren Ornelas
Cd. Juarez, Chihuahua
16-69-35
This is the newest hotspot for dining and people-watching in Juarez. Located near the Plaza de las Americas Mall, Ajuua! resembles a large two-story Mexican home from the outside. On the inside the restaurant is fashioned to look like a town square in a little Mexican village. The food ranges from typical Mexican dishes to more adventurous items. Strolling musicians play throughout the evening. It's best to arrive early to get a table, then stick around to check out the scene that builds as the night progresses. The bar area is also a nice place to relax.
Nuevo Martino
417 Avenida Juarez
Cd. Juarez, Chihuahua
12-33-70
"Martino's" is one of the most well-known restaurants in Juarez. It's been in the same location, with the same jacketed waiters - and what looks like the same decor - for over 30 years. Locals still reminisce about the great food and service of days gone by. Though the formula is aging, it's a place to go to get the feel of old Juarez . The menu consists mainly of steaks and seafood, all adequately prepared. Full bar. The restaurant is located on the downtown strip. Moderate to expensive.
Shangri La
Avenida de las Americas at Avenida 16 de Septiembre
Cd. Juarez, Chihuahua
13-00-33
Chinese food is surprisingly popular and well-prepared in both El Paso and Juarez. Shangri-La has built a reputation for over 30 years and is consistently voted one of the best Chinese restaurants in either city. The menu is extensive with great dishes like almond duck in red sauce, and perfectly fried wontons. Very attentive service. Moderate to Expensive.
Viva Mexico
Pueblito Mexicano Mall
Cd. Juarez, Chihuahua
29-01-56
The decor at Viva Mexico resembles the plaza of a small Mexican village. The menu contains a wide variety of Mexican dishes including steaks, chicken and seafood plates. Salads, soups, children's meals and low calorie selections are available. This is a very pretty restaurant with good food and attentive service. Thursday nights are a special night at Viva Mexico with live dancers, mariachi music and even simulated cock fights. The Polo Lounge is located in the back of the restaurant and is open evenings. Moderate.
