International Bridge Information

Ports of Entry

There are five ports of entry into Mexico from the greater El Paso area. All charge small tolls for both pedestrian and vehicular traffic except the Bridge of the Americas. Rarely is there a significant wait time to cross into Mexico. If you are crossing by car, you will get either a green or red light at the inspection booths on the Mexican side. If you are “lucky” enough to get a red light, you will be stopped for inspection.

Crossing back into the U.S., the wait times can vary from a few minutes to more than one hour. Typically, the Bridge of the Americas has the longest wait time because there is no toll charge at that bridge.

DOWNTOWN

Two bridges are in downtown El Paso. At the southern end of Santa Fe Street is the Santa Fe Street Bridge. On the other side of that bridge is Juarez Avenue. This bridge is open to north and southbound pedestrian traffic and northbound auto traffic. The nearby Stanton Street Bridge connects with Av. Lerdo in Juarez. The Santa Fe Street Bridge is the best choice if you are going to visit Juarez on foot because the tourist areas around Juarez Avenue and the markets are nearby.

BRIDGE OF THE AMERICAS
(also known as the Free Bridge, "BOTA," and the Cordova Bridge)

This bridge is open to truck, auto and pedestrian traffic. The Juarez Visitors Information Center is just south of the bridge. Several museums and shopping areas can be found within a few miles of this port. A large Mexican flag can frequently be seen flying just south of this bridge on a pole over 300 feet in height.

ZARAGOZA BRIDGE

Located on the far east side of El Paso, this bridge is open to truck, auto and pedestrian traffic and is a good choice to access industrial areas on the east side of Juarez.

SANTA TERESA, NEW MEXICO PORT OF ENTRY

Actually situated in New Mexico, this port is the newest in the area. Built to relieve traffic at the ports within the city, this crossing is in a rural area. It’s a good choice only if your plans are to bypass Juarez and travel to the interior of the state of Chihuahua.
