MuseenAmericana Museum befindet sich im Convention and Performing Arts Center im Zentrum von El Paso. Ausstellungen befassen sich hauptsächlich mit vorkolumbianischer Geschichte. Flugzeuge und Fahrzeuge, die von den Behörden verwendet wurden, beschlagnamte Gegenstände und Überwachungseinrichtungen und mehr sind ständig ausgestellt. Dieses fast 1000 m2 große Museum ist gleich neben dem Wilderness Park Museum. Verbinden Sie einen Besuch der beiden Museen. Centennial Museum Dieses Museum befindet sich auf dem Gelände der Universität von El Paso (UTEP) und befaßt sich mit Naturkunde und kultureller Geschichte mit Schwerpunkt auf dem Südwesten von USA und Mexiko. Es wird seinem Anspruch durch Ausstellungen, Lehrveranstaltungen und Forschung gerecht. www.utep.edu/museum

El Paso Museum of Art Familiäre Ereignisse, Filme- und Videoprogramme, Lesungen, Kunstgespräche, Konzerte und darstellende Künste, Geschichtenerzähler und mehr bietet das ganze Jahr hindurch in Verbindungn mit abwechselnden Ausstellungen und ständigen Sammlungen das El Paso Museum of Art. Es werden kostenlose Führungen in Englisch und Spanisch angeboten. Die Führungen werden von Dozenten, ausgebildeten Freiwilligen, die Ihnen gerne alle Fragen beantworten werden. Das Museum befindet sich im Arts Festival Plaza, gegenüber der Santa Fee Sreet, neben dem Convention Center. El Paso Museum of History Dieses Museum spiegelt die abwechslungsreiche Geschichte der Indianer, Eroberer, Cowboys, Vaqueros und Kavallerie wieder, die eine entscheidende Rolle in der Besiedelung des Südwestens hatten. Fort Bliss Fort Bliss ist das größte Luftverteidigungszentrum der westlichen Welt. Es wurde ursprünglich im Jahre 1854 gegründet und nach Lt. Col. William Wallace Smith Bliss benannt. Es befinden sich zwei Museen auf dem Gelände: Das Fort Bliss Replica Museum (Tel.: 568-4518) und das U.S. Army Air Defense Museum (Tel.: 568-5412).
Insights - El Paso Science Museum Über 80 praktisch durchführbare Wissenschafts- und Technologieexperimente können hier miterlebt werden. Es befindet sich in seinem neuen Gebäude neben der City Hall im Zentrum von El Paso. Geöffnet Dienstag - Samstag von 09:00 bis 17:00 Uhr. Tel.: 542-2990.
War Eagles Museum Befindet sich am Santa Teresa, NM Flughafen. Dieses einzigartige Museum ist nur etwa 20 Minuten vom Zentrum von El Paso entfernt. Sehen Sie eine Sammlung von 28 restaurierten und funktionstüchtigen historischen Flugzeuge aus dem 2. Weltkrieg. und dem Koreakrieg. Befindet sich an der Transmountain Road neben dem Highway 54 im Nordosten von El Paso. Dieses Museum erzählt die Geschichte der Besiedelung und Anpassung der Menschen an die Wüste. Sehenswürdigkeiten(einige Punkte werden erst noch übersetzt) The Bridge Center For Contemporary Arts This non-profit gallery focuses on contemporary and experimental art by both emerging and nationally recognized artists. Located across from the Camino Real Hotel in downtown El Paso at 127 Pioneer Plaza. Open Tuesday thru Saturday from 11am to 5:30pm, call (915) 532-6707.
The Camino Real Paso Del Norte Hotel Originally built in 1912 and listed on the National Historical Register. The 80-year old Tiffany glass dome, once part of the hotel's lobby, is now the showcase of the elegant Dome Bar. The hotel has hosted such guests as Pancho Villa, President Taft, and "Blackjack Pershing". Located at 101 S. El Paso St. Open daily, (915) 534-3000.
Chamizal National Memorial The memorial is built on land that became part of the U.S. when the Chamizal border dispute with Mexico was settled in 1963. Walk the grounds or visit the museum. Performances are held almost weekly in the theater and outside in the amphitheatre in good weather. Open daily 8-5:30. 800 S. San Marcial. (915) 534-6668.
Concordia Cemetery This graveyard was started in 1856 and by the 1880s had become the main burial site for El Paso. A section Concordia was El Paso's "Boot Hill" and is where the infamous gunfighter John Wesley Hardin is buried. Just norhtwest of the intersection of I-10 and Hwy 54.
El Paso Zoo Newly expanded and much improved, the zoo is home to over 175 species of animals, including many endangered species, in 18 acres of natural habitat exhibits. The zoo focuses on animals of the Americas and Asia. Located in central El Paso near the intersection of Highway 54 and Paisano, take I-10 to the Paisano exit, go southwest and follow the signs to the zoo entrance. Emerald Springs Golf & Conference Center The completed renovations of this historic course and clubhouse where Lee Trevino started playing has El Paso excited again about golf on the eastside. Built 25 years ago on an actual desert spring, the 18-hole championship course stays green all year. The newly reseeded bent grass greens are considered some of the best in the southwest. The newly renovated clubhouse features full-service dining, meeting rooms, golf shop, bar, olympic sized pool, practice greens and driving range, PGA instruction, and 4 championship tennis courts. Located just 20 minutes east of the airport in secluded Horizon City - take I-10 east to the Horizon City exit, go north and make a left on Ashford St., then 1/2 mile to the entrance. Hueco Tanks State Park This area got its name from the huge basin-shaped rocks that catch and hold our less-than abundant rainfall. Drawings on cave walls date back as far as 1,500 B.C. World-class rock climbing, plus hiking, picnicking and camping. 20 miles east of El Paso on Hwy 62. Open daily 8am to dusk, call (915) 857-1135.
Indian Cliffs Ranch at Cattleman's Steakhouse
This 26-year-old landmark east of El Paso offers great family fun. You can
see Texas longhorns, buffalo, deer, Belgian team horses and may other animals.
There's also an Indian maze, movie sets, the Fort Apache playground for kids
and hayrides on Sunday afternoons, plus the admission is free for steakhouse
guests! After the sights, stay for dinner at the world-famous Cattleman's
Steakhouse. Located 35 miles from downtown. Take I-10 east to exit 49, turn
left and travel about five miles into the desert and you're there! Open daily

Magoffin Homestead Eine um 1875 erbaute Hacienda im Territorialstil. Die dicken Adobe Mauern beherbergen noch Möbel, Gemälde und Gebrauchsgegenstände der ersten Besitzer, der bekannten Pionierfamilie Magoffin. Joseph Magoffin (1837-1923) war politisch sehr aktiv und bekleidete zahlreiche Ämter in El Paso. Er wurde viermal zum Bürgermeister in den Jahren 1881, 1883, 1897 und 1899 gewählt. McKelligon Canyon Beautiful canyon park located on the north side of El Paso and in the middle of the Franklin Mountains. Great hiking and picnicking. The amphitheater is home each summer to performances of Viva El Paso! and other events. Take McKelligon Canyon Road off Alabama St.
Old Mesilla Befindet sich etwa 80 km westlich von El Paso. Abfahrt Las Cruces/Mesilla von der I-10. Ein kleines abgelegenes Dorf, dessen Adobe Gebäude sich immer noch, wie vor 100 Jahren, an die spanische Plaza und um die Kirche schmiegen. Viele kleine Geschäfte, Boutiquen und einige sehr ungewöhnliche aber sehr gute Restaurants; auf jeden Fall ein Besuch wert.
The Mission Trail
Located just 15 minutes east of downtown El Paso, the Mission Trail is rich
in history dating back 400 years. You can visit three active missions, plus
numerous other historic sites. Unique local shopping and dining are also
nearby. Take I-10 east to the Zaragosa exit, turn south and follow the blue
historical signs.
Painted Dunes Desert Golf Course Rave reviews keep coming for this championship desert-style golf course. Surrounded by natural desert vegetation and majestic mountains, Painted Dunes has been ranked the second best municipal golf course in the nation by Golf Digest and is one of their 40 "Super Values" nationwide. The Dallas Morning News has Painted Dunes ranked in the Top Ten public courses in Texas for the past four years. There's a complete practice facility with driving range, chipping and pitching green and putting green. Located in northeast El Paso, 20 minutes from the airport or downtown at 12000 McCombs - from I-10 take highway 54 east toward Alamogordo (about 9 miles), go left on McCombs, two miles after freeway ends. Plaza Monumental Bullring Live, traditional bullfights are held in the spring and summer at this bullring in Juarez. Three matadors fight two bulls each in this longstanding Spanish and Mexican sport. Matches last about two hours. On hot days spend the extra money for tickets on the shady side of the arena. Check the calendar of events in this issue for dates. Plaza Monumental is located at Paseo Triunfo de la Republica #4630, one block from the Rio Grande Mall. Tickets can be purchased at the International Hotel at 113 W. Missouri in downtown El Paso, call 544-3300. Transportation from El Paso can be arranged through Rancho Grande Tours, call 771-6661.
Scenic Drive The best view of the city accessible by car. You can see all of El Paso and Juarez, plus some of New Mexico. From downtown, take Stanton St. north, then go right on Rim Rd.

Sunland Park Racetrack Thoroughbreds and quarterhorses run October thru May with inter-track wagering mid-May to October at Sunland Park in New Mexico. Only 10 minutes from downtown. Take I-10 west to the Sunland Park exit then go west two miles. Racing Wed, Fri-Sun, starts @ 1pm. (915) 589-1131.
The University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) The school opened in 1914 as the Texas School of Mining and Metalurgy. The buildings were built to resemble those seen in the city of Lhasa in the Himalayas. The Sun Bowl Stadium on campus is home to the annual Sun Bowl. The Centennial Museum tells of the human and natural history of the area with exhibits dating to pre-historic Mexico. Transmountain Road and Franklin Mountains State Park This is the road that cuts through the mountains and connects northeast El Paso with Canutillo to the northwest of town. There are several places to stop and enjoy different views of the desert and towns below. Franklin Mountains Park lies at the bottom of the west side of the mountain. It's a great place for hiking and picnicking and to get an up-close view of the desert and mountains. The Park is open 8am to dusk and a small fee is charged.
Western Playland Amusement Park
Located in Ascarate Park in El Paso, Western Playland has rides for kids
of all ages. Roller coasters, water slides, trains, rides, go-carts and more
in a well maintained and exceptionally clean park. This is a great place
to let the kids unwind after too much time in the car! Open weekends in the
spring and fall and Wednesday through Sunday in the summer. To reach the
park, exit I-10 at Trowbridge and turn south, turn right on Delta and go
over the bridge, then left into Ascarate Park. Call (915) 772-3914.
Wet 'N' Wild Waterworld 37 acres of good, clean family fun. Wet 'N' Wild is a well-established waterpark that just keeps getting bigger and better. The park has 22 water attractions for everyone from little children to teenagers and adults. Two of the highlights are the Screamer - a six-story tall water slide that goes almost straight down and the new Wild Island Waves wave pool with simulated waves up to three feet high. The park has lots of shade trees and grassy areas, plus restaurants and locker rooms. Wet 'N' Wild is a great place to beat the El Paso heat. Located along I-10 at the Anthony exit "0". From downtown El Paso take I-10 west about 17 miles to the Anthony exit. You'll see the park on the left side of the road. Open everyday through the summer, call (915) 886-2222. www.wetwild.com
